Frequently Asked Questions.
Can I use my cloth pads right away?
All fabrics are pre-washed prior to construction. However it is always advised to pre-wash your pads at least once prior to use. |
How many cloth pads will I need?
depending on how often you would like to do laundry, how heavy your flow is, and how often you change your pad out. Consider how long you wear each pad (think the same as disposables), multiply that by the number of days between washing, add a couple overnight pads. We recommend our Getting Started Pack. |
How absorbent are cloth pads?
In general the larger the pad surface area, the more absorbent the pad. Cloth pads need to be changed at intervals as you would a disposable pad and this frequency is unique to each individual. Pretty Eco Intimates cloth pads have cores made with PUL, OBF or Zorb. |
Will they leak?
No, but like any other menstrual product they do have limitations. It really depends on how heavy your menstrual cycle is. After you try Pretty Eco Intimates, you will soon realize how often you need to change your pads, to prevent leakage. |
How do I store my cloth pads?
Two common methods are to use a dry pail or a cold water soak. "Dry Pail" When using a dry pail just place pads in a closed container like a wetbag until wash day, then soak for an hour or overnight before washing. "Cold Water Soak" When using the Soak method, just soak pads following use in cold water and leave in the water until washing, changing the water daily. Wash pads every 24 hours to preserve the fabric. Pads can be machine washed with like colours with your usual wash or hand wash. |
How do I wash my Cloth pads?
Do not use chlorine bleaches. Soak in cold water, as hot water can set stains. Natural sunlight is an excellent stain remover. Air or line drying is preferred, or use a cool or low heat setting when machine drying. It is important not to dry on high heat or the PUL may delaminate, or the snaps warp. Wash pads with cold or warm water. If you are concerned with stains you can pre-treat with a stain stick, shout, or dry in the SUN. Many find that soaking with an Oxy-type cleanser takes care of most stains. Never use fabric softener; as build up of softeners can hinder absorption. You can use any type detergent you like, some people use cloth diaper detergents, or perfume free, or the same as you use for your clothes. |
How do I take care of my cloth pads when out and about?
A small waterproof pouch such as a wetbag is ideal. A fleece or PUL pad wrapper can also be used to carry either dry or used pads in your handbag. |
How long do the cloth pads last?
Cloth Pads last for between 5-10 years. It all depends on how well they were cared for. However cloth pads can be addictive, you may wish to renew your stash more frequently! |
Where does this shop ship from?
Belfast, Prince Edward Island, Canada. |
What is Bamboo?
Bamboo is a timber plant which is extensively used in the production of textiles, housewares and timbers. It requires very little irrigation or pesticide use and regenerates rapidly. This textile is 100% biodegradable. Bamboo fabric is approximately 60% more absorbent than cotton and has a luxurious, silky feel. Being a natural fibre it breathes and draws moisture away from the body. Cold to warm water washing is recommended. Can be tumble dried on a low setting. Bamboo fleece makes a great pad core. Bamboo velour and bamboo flannel make for luxuriously soft and absorbent pad facings. |
What is Zorb?
Zorb is manufactured in the USA and Canada. It is made from tangled cellulose fibres from bamboo/cotton/viscose and polymicrofibre. One layer of Zorb is equivalent in absorbency to 3 layers of cotton flannel or 1.3 layers of cotton fleece. Zorb can be used as a core fabric in Overnight Pads. |
What is PUL?
Some Regular, Heavy and Overnight pads are lined with PUL which is an abbreviation of Polyurethane Laminate; a waterproof coating that is applied to a base fabric. PUL is breathable and is the most effective means for waterproofing a cloth pad. Originally designed for use in the healthcare industry. |
Do you accept orders placed outside of the Canada?
Yes, but there will be a shipping delay as I need to personally go to the PO and fill out a customs form. |
Can I wash with my Cloth Diapers?
This is a personal preference thing. Most cloth diapering mom's do. However if you are prone to yeast infections there is a chance of spreading germs onto your child's diapers. |

Most orders ship within 1-3 business days, after that it’s up to the post office. We’ll be in contact with you regarding Custom orders. |
What about odour?
Pretty Eco Intimates do not contain plastic or nylon, so air flows naturally through them, keeping our pads cooler and drier: therefore preventing odour. |
How will my pads stay in place?
Once the wings of the pad are snapped together the pad will stay in place. The back of all Pretty Eco Intimates pads are made from soft textured micro fleece that doesn’t slip easily. |
Tips for success:
- If you’re unsure whether our pads are right for you, please buy only a small selection to try them out first (rather than a money-saving kit) as due to the intimate nature and hygienic standards of our products, it is not possible for us to accept returns.
- Washing the pads before you first use them will optimize the absorbency of the fabrics, getting you off to a great start!
- Keep spare pads clean and neat by folding the ends in to the middle and then doing the snaps up over the top, to form a very tidy little package.
- Our discreet pad wrappers are great for keeping used pads in, when out and about. Then simply turn the bag out into the laundry when you get home.
- If you’re having a particularly heavy flow, we offer a double layer core of either organic bamboo fleece or zorb. Likewise, we offer a droplet shape nursing pad for those who find that one or both breasts leak heavily.
- Relieve sore, swollen parts from birth or surgery and speed up the healing process by sprinkling a nighttime pad with water, then chill the pad in the fridge before use.
What is Pretty Eco Intimates return and exchange policy?
Generally speaking, due to the personal nature of these products I will very rarely offer returns for any reason.
But here are some helpful facts:
Natural Variation: All items are individually made with tender love & care in Canada. (Although the materials used may or may not be 100% Canadian made). There are natural variation in these products because of the variation on sizes and shape that is unavoidable. I do not offer refunds because of variations.
Snaps: Please do not dry items with plastic snaps on HIGH in the dryer, this may cause them to warp/swell and no longer snap. Drying on LOW shouldn’t harm the snaps. If you have an issue with a snap falling off please contact me immediately!
PUL: PUL may delaminate in high heat. It is recommended to re-seal your PUL items occasionally to maintain the waterproof layer. To reseal your PUL , wash, then dry on HIGH for 20 minutes. It is not recommended to use the sanitary function on your washer as this may cause your PUL to delaminate. For the longest life air dry items with PUL, but you can also machine dry on LOW.
Defects: If there is a defect in the product that renders it unusable we can discuss options for return and/or refunds within 45 days of receipt for cloth pads, and 30 days for other items.
Fabrics: Unfortunately I can not warranty fabrics, only workmanship. Flannel and some fleeces will pill, that's their nature.
If you have any additional feedback regarding my products please contact me and let me know.
We love feedback! Please email me at [email protected] with pictures and a detailed explanation.
